About Grassmarket
The Grassmarket project is a place for the community of people in Edinburgh to come together and do all sorts of activities – anyone can become a member and they offer things like woodworking classes, cooking classes and we thought we would add science discussions too. These are weekly informal chats to give a space for people to learn a bit about research that wouldn’t normally have access to it.
We are hosting weekly events throughout the year. We have a group of around 8 adults who are keen to hear from a scientist but we hope for everyone to feel equal and free to ask questions, hence the informal nature.
Members of the Grassmarket community include vulnerable adults, people with disabilities, people who are unemployed and retired people. This means that in our group there will be a spectrum of experience; there may be someone with a PhD right through to someone who hasn’t done science since school.
As scientists we take it for granted that we can chat about science and ask questions but it’s quite a unique opportunity for many people. We hope you’ll enjoy meeting new people at the session and sharing your science in a new environment!
If you would like to know more about how you can get involved as a speaker or attending the events send us an email.
